- We consider it a good weekend when we have parked the car upon our
arrival and have not had to drive again until it's time to go home.
Our
preference is to travel by boat, foot or bicycle once we have arrived. That
said, there are days when the cottage can be a bit small. Fortunately there
is great exploring to be had.
The
Kinmount movie theatre is a favourite stop for us every year. The
lobby is filled with old movie projectors and memorabilia and the theatres
themselves take you back to a time before AMC or Silver City. The kids think
it's cool.
The are many antiques stores to be found in every community. The local
produce can be found at road side stands.
We like to buy our eggs from the Mennonites on the Glenarm Road on our
way to Fenelons Falls for the famous Kawartha Dairies ice cream. Here's list of great
Farm
Markets where you can always get the freshest produce.
When we are more ambitious we drive up to the
Quaker Oaks farm which is
on the road to Norland from Sebright. It's closer to Sebright and has the
best butter tarts in the world - no kidding. The stuffed olives selection is
pretty good too. The kids like to see the ducks and chickens and play with
the cats and kittens, in season.
I love to fish. The fishing in Balsam Lake is very good. Balsam Lake is a
favourite place to fish for many people and while we never fill the boat
with fish we are rarely disappointed with our catch.
Winter activities include snow-shoeing, cross-country
skiing, downhill skiing and skating. The
Norland Cross Country Ski and Recreation Park
offers Nordic skiers kilometers of lovely trails approximately 6 kms west of
Norland in the lovely Haliburton Highlands area of Ontario. In summer,
visitors can utilize the driving range, as well as hike, mountain bike and
bird watching.
Sailing, canoeing, hiking, bicycling, walking, cooking,
fishing, antiquing, exploring, shopping - there are so many things to do!
We have a great collection of vinyl records from the
1970s, it's a trip down memory lane!
